I was in 4th grade when this came out , i am 65, i will mist Melanie unbelievable voice. I alwas go back to the mid 60s to 74/75, play as nuch folk, progressive, hard rock, so many band, but these was onky One Melanie S

This was played by KUMD (Duluth, MN) today and I could never understand the lryics. Now I know why - they don't make much sense and the words run together. It got a lot of airplay at the time, though.

I have sung this song in my head since I first heard it, about 50 years ago now. Just last week, I began to build the chart for acoustic guitar, never knowing she was close to her next chapter. When I heard the news, it just hit me in the gut. We've lost a true crusader. I'll complete the chart and add the song to my list. Thank you Melanie. One of my best friends lost her husband on New Year’s Eve, a little more than a year ago. Many nights, after, I would stay the night and we would listen to music, talk, cook, watch movies, together, so that I could be a good friend during a very difficult time. One day, we were in the car and she said we should figure out a song that would be our song. The next song that played was “Lay Down “, by Melanie. It was perfect, it was a solemn thing and when I heard she passed, it literally took my breath away. RIP Melanie. Your vocals transcend this earthly world.

Melanie sang about candles in the rain which is sad. Jesus Christ is the Light of the World and His Light will never be extinguished!❤❤❤

RIP Melanie. Back in my early teens, I was seeking spirituality and community, and this song was so special and important to me. A group of us even made "beautiful people" buttons to hand out. She has many other great songs but this one is written on my soul. It still resonates with me today (singing along and crying right now for the beauty of that time).
